Nestled next to the clear and inviting waters of Mirabello Bay, the Mare Apartments are in the harbour area within walking distance of the local amenities. Set in the Gulf Of Mirabello, in the harbour area, it is connected by a small canal to the deep Voulismeni lake. From the town of Elounda, on the lake, you have views of the underwater ancient site of Olous with its temples of Zeus and Artemis on a clear day. Elounda is blessed with beautiful sandy coves and boats can be rented for a trip to see Spinalonga, the peninsula where the Venetians built an impregnable fortress in 1579 and made it an island by cutting a canal. In later years, it was used as a leper colony, until as recently as the 1950s.
